The good news is that All Stars Cricket is designed from the ground up to be welcoming, low-pressure and genuinely fun, even for children who've never picked up a bat before. Here's a clear, honest look at what your child's first session will actually look like, so you can turn up feeling confident rather than uncertain.
All Stars Cricket is the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) official introduction to the game for children aged 5 to 8. Rather than focusing on formal rules or competitive play, it's built around fun, games and gentle skill-building, giving children their first taste of batting, bowling and fielding in a relaxed, supportive setting.

There's no need to invest in a kit before you've even started. For that first visit, all your child really needs is:
Once your child is signed up, they'll receive their own All Stars Cricket kit, including a t-shirt, a backpack and a personalised certificate to mark their progress through the programme. It's a lovely touch that gives children a real sense of belonging from day one.
When you arrive at Worcester Cricket Club or Alveley Cricket Club, you'll be greeted by our coaching team, all of whom are DBS-checked, experienced and genuinely passionate about working with young children. Don't worry if your child is a little shy to begin with; our coaches are used to helping nervous first-timers settle in quickly, usually within the first few minutes of games and introductions.
Parents are welcome to stay and watch, and many do, especially in those first couple of weeks. It's a great chance to see your child's confidence grow session by session.
Every session is built around fun, interactive games rather than drills or lectures. Your child will spend the hour running, throwing, catching and hitting balls, all while gradually picking up the fundamentals of the game. Typically, a session includes:
Because the focus is on participation over performance, there's no such thing as being "behind." Children progress at their own pace, and our coaches are skilled at adapting activities so that every child, regardless of ability, feels included and challenged in the right way.

Many parents tell us the friendships their children make at All Stars Cricket are just as meaningful as the skills they pick up. It's often the first time a child has been part of a "team" outside of school, and that sense of belonging tends to stick.
As the session wraps up, coaches will usually run through a quick recap and celebrate what the group has achieved that day. Over the course of the programme, your child will work towards their All Stars certificate, a nice way to mark their progress and give them something to be proud of.
